He qualified from Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London and all of his training has been in London and the South East.

Mr Connell undertook research using minimal access surgery (key hole surgery), part of which involved treating fibroids with low power lasers, and treating heavy periods.  His work is in Hospitals in and around Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells. As well as his work as a general gynaecologist, he is a urogynaecologist and specialises in the management of prolapse, incontinence and vaginal surgery. He is a laparoscopic (key-hole) surgeon eg performing laparoscopic subtotal hysterectomies.

Rowan Connell has had a solid training in obstetrics and gynaecology as well as having areas of special interest.  In his training he has gained considerable surgical experience. Has worked as a consultant in Kent since 2002. Before this he was a registrar in Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells Trust, Benenden Hospital and St Thomas’ Hospital in London.

He treats a wide range of gynaecological conditions and has special interests in Urogynaecology (the treatment of urinary incontinence and prolapse), the treatment of heavy periods and Minimal Access Surgery (keyhole surgery). Rowan Connell has had a solid training in obstetrics and gynaecology and has close contacts in Europe to keep “up to date”. Mr Connell leads and shares the lead in the running of several services as a consultant in his present post. He has been the lead in setting up a laparoscopic subtotal hysterectomy (“day-case hysterectomy”) service in the private sector and the NHS. He enjoys teaching and has set up and run several courses.  Mr Connell has presented at national and international conferences on various topics.  He has published broadly around Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

With his interests, expertise and experience Mr Connell is able to give service to his patients.  He is also well equipped to teach and to initiate and to contribute to research.  He is able to develop good working relationships within a multidisciplinary environment, working well as a member of the team.  Mr Connell has good relationships with other specialists in: gynaecology (for example those involved in cancer treatments and infertility treatments); general, breast and bowel surgery; and different medical specialities and he is happy to suggest a referral, should that be necessary.

He works with a wonderful team of secretaries – in the NHS and private. He has nurses who specialise in urogynaecology and who help run the urodynamic services. He also has access to dedicated physiotherapy services for women’s health, both in the NHS and privately.

Mr Connell is a member of the British Menopause Society (BMS) and the British Society of Urogynaecology and also the European Society of Urogynaecology (BSUG and EUGA).
